Vessel Grounding Incident Near Piraeus Resolved Without Casualties
On the evening of December 1, 2021, the bulk carrier 'Sea Patris,' while navigating from Piraeus to Novorossiysk, experienced a grounding incident just off the coast of Psyttalia as it departed from the Ikonio port area. The vessel, carrying a crew of 22, found itself stranded but was quickly attended to by nearby salvage vessels. The 'Karapiperis New Generation,' 'Vernicos Oceanos,' and 'Christos XXX' were instrumental in the successful refloat operation. Subsequently, the 'Sea Patris' was safely anchored back in Piraeus. Fortunately, there were no reports of leaks or injuries, and the incident did not lead to any marine pollution concerns. However, the Central Port Authority of Piraeus has temporarily prohibited the vessel from setting sail again until it can provide a class maintenance certificate from the relevant classification society.

Detained Ship 'Sea Patris' Faces Crew Wage Crisis in Zeebrugge
The vessel 'Sea Patris' has been held in Zeebrugge since its arrival on January 31, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. The detention stems from unresolved wage issues involving its 23-member crew, predominantly comprising Ukrainian nationals, who have not received their salaries from the Greek shipping company, MCCL, for several months. The ship, which had transported a cargo of vehicles originating from Le Havre on January 30, was also found to have a number of minor safety infractions upon inspection by maritime authorities. A representative from MCCL is scheduled to arrive in Zeebrugge tonight to address the situation.
