Historic Arrival: First Container Ship for the US East Coast Docks in Vietnam

May 25, 2015 14:06

In a landmark event for Vietnam’s maritime trade, the ZAMZAM container ship from the United Arab Emirates made its inaugural docking at Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) in the southern province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau on Friday. This vessel marks the first of its kind to arrive in Vietnam for the purpose of loading cargo destined for the US East Coast. Measuring an impressive 300 meters, the ZAMZAM boasts a capacity of 9,006 TEUs and is part of the Ocean 3 alliance, which includes prominent shipping giants such as CMA-CGM, China Shipping, and the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC). The ship commenced its journey from Yantian port in China and will continue its sea route to various destinations including Port Kelang, El Suweis, New York, and Malta, among others. With its advanced design, the CMIT is equipped to accommodate vessels weighing up to 160,000 DWT, further solidifying its position as a key player in international maritime logistics.

United Arab Shipping Company Secures New Charter for 9,034-TEU 'Asiatic Summer'

Sep 18, 2014 12:20

The United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has officially announced a charter agreement for the 9,034-TEU vessel, 'Asiatic Summer', from Singapore's Asiatic Lloyd, a prominent non-operating ship owner. The impressive neopanamax containership was completed at the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries shipyard and is currently docked in Busan, ready for its upcoming deployment in October, as detailed by Alphaliner. UASC plans to integrate the 'Asiatic Summer' into its FE-West Med AMC 1/AMX 1 service, a partnership it shares with China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL). This strategic move will see the new vessel replace UASC's existing fleet of 6,918 TEU ships, which are set to be reassigned to serve routes connecting the Indian subcontinent with the Mediterranean and Europe (MEUSEC Mina service). This decision aligns with UASC's involvement in the recently established Ocean Three alliance with CMA CGM and CSCL, focusing on enhancing service capabilities across Asia-Europe and Asia-North America trade routes.
