Rudder Malfunction Leads to Collision in Emden Harbour
On March 18, 2016, at approximately 5:00 PM, the vehicle carrier 'Schelde Highway' encountered a rudder malfunction while departing from the port of Emden, destined for Grimsby. During this incident, the car carrier collided with the cargo ship 'Vitin,' which was arriving from Sandnes and preparing to enter the port. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as the 'Schelde Highway' impacted the side of the 'Vitin.' Following the collision, the 'Schelde Highway' navigated back to the Ems Quay, where it docked at 6:00 PM. Simultaneously, the 'Vitin' also secured a berth at Zungen Quay. While the car carrier experienced only minor damage and continued its journey to Grimsby later that evening, the 'Vitin' sustained substantial damage to its starboard side foreship.
