Thalassa Patris Diverted Due to Hazmat Leak During Singapore to Suez Voyage

Oct 03, 2021 20:15

On September 30, 2021, the cargo vessel 'Thalassa Patris' was forced to make an unexpected detour while navigating through the Laccadive Sea, located to the north of the Maldives. The ship, which was en route from Singapore to Suez, reported a leak from one or more containers holding hazardous materials or liquids. In response to this critical situation, the vessel altered its course to head towards Colombo for urgent safety measures. After safely arriving at Colombo on October 2, the ship was berthed to facilitate the removal of the compromised cargo. This unforeseen incident had already caused a delay in the ship's estimated arrival at Suez, pushing it from the original date of October 5 to a revised date of October 10. Following the successful resolution of the issue, 'Thalassa Patris' departed from Colombo on October 3 at 10:45 a.m.

Relatives of 24-year-old Vladislav Maslov, the Second Officer aboard the 'Thalassa Patris', are desperately seeking information regarding his disappearance. Maslov boarded the vessel in Singapore on November 18, 2019, with the ship setting sail on November 19, destined for Suez with an estimated arrival date of December 2. Communication with Maslov ceased on November 22, raising alarm among his family. He was reported missing at 8 p.m. when the 'Thalassa Patris' was navigating the Indian Ocean, east of Colombo. The shipping company informed his relatives the following morning at 8 a.m. In a bid to locate Maslov, the ship turned back at 7 a.m. on November 23 to the last known position believed to be the site of the incident. Search operations spanned from 6:30 p.m. until the early hours of November 24, concluding at 1:30 a.m. Following the search, the vessel resumed its journey at a reduced speed, moving in short segments for an additional eight hours before finally regaining full speed at 11:15 a.m.
