Anchor Mishap Occurs Near Aberdeen as Sartor Loses Chain

Feb 16, 2020 19:03

On February 15, 2020, the vessel 'Sartor' encountered a significant incident while anchored off the coast of Aberdeen. A failure in the anchor chain link resulted in the loss of the anchor along with five shackles, which plunged into the waters below. In response to the situation, the ship's master coordinated with the owner to initiate the recovery of the lost anchor.

Former Malaviya 7 Departs Aberdeen as Sartor After Long Standstill

Jan 27, 2018 22:06

The ship previously known as the 'Malaviya 7' has successfully departed from Aberdeen after being anchored in the city for over a year. This vessel faced significant challenges following its detention back in October 2016, leading to its crew being largely restricted to the ship due to a lack of proper travel documentation for their stay in the UK. During much of 2017, the crew relied on the generosity of local Aberdeen citizens for essential food supplies. In November of the previous year, the supply ship was sold to a Norwegian company, paving the way for the crew to finally return to India. However, as of January 2018, it was reported that the seafarers were still owed a staggering £670,000 in unpaid wages, casting a shadow on the vessel’s history. Now renamed 'Sartor', the ship left Aberdeen Harbour on January 27, heading to Szczecin, with an expected arrival date of January 30. The departure marks a significant milestone for the vessel as it embarks on a new chapter under its new ownership.

Acceptance of Malaviya 7 Purchase Offers Hope After Prolonged Detention

Nov 08, 2017 11:22

The 'Malaviya 7', a vessel that has languished in detention at Aberdeen for over a year, is set to change hands following the acceptance of a purchase offer. Originally detained in June 2016 and again in October, the ship found itself embroiled in issues concerning merchant shipping regulations. While the exact sale price remains undisclosed, it is believed that the agreement will sufficiently cover the unpaid wages owed to the crew. The vessel's auction last month ended in disappointment when it was withdrawn after attracting only a modest bid of £300,000. A sheriff had previously ruled in September that the 'Malaviya 7' could be sold via public auction. Recently, six crew members managed to secure passage home through Aberdeen International Airport. The International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) played a crucial role in supporting the crew, providing essential supplies such as food and water. They received additional assistance from various seafaring organizations and the local Aberdeen community. Throughout this ordeal, the crew remained mostly aboard the ship due to concerns over potential unpaid wages should they disembark.
