Coast Guard Rescues Worker Injured Aboard Ergina Luck in Columbia River Incident
In a dramatic early morning rescue operation on February 12, 2018, the US Coast Guard successfully assisted an injured contracted worker on the motor vessel Ergina Luck, moored at the Astoria anchorage of the Columbia River. At 4:49 a.m., the vessel's agent reached out to the Coast Guard Sector Columbia River, reporting that a man had fallen into the bilge while working on the installation of a critical recirculation system. The worker sustained injuries to both legs and his back, leaving him unable to walk. Responding swiftly, a dedicated crew aboard a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment was dispatched to the scene. They also brought along 11 members of the Clatsop County high-angle rescue team to provide necessary assistance. Once on board the Ergina Luck, the rescue team secured the injured man, carefully immobilizing him before navigating three sets of stairs to safely transport him to the waiting crew of the Motor Lifeboat. From there, he was rushed to emergency medical services at the 17th Street Pier in Astoria. The injured individual, a U.S. citizen employed by Degesch America, a Portland-based company, was under urgent care. Currently, there is no update on his condition.
