In the early hours of June 11, 2024, at approximately 3:12 AM, the bulk carrier 'Santa Regina' found itself under attack by a group of six armed intruders. The vessel, which was navigating from Paranagua to Nansha, was boarded west of Pulau Cula at the coordinates 1° 3.4 N 103° 37.5 E. The assailants, brandishing knives, breached the ship's security by accessing the engine room through a door leading from the steering gear compartment. During the incident, two crew members were restrained, while the intruders proceeded to steal several engine spare parts from the machinery space. The situation was discovered by an engineer, who promptly alerted the Captain about the breach. In a decisive response, the Captain activated the emergency alarm, summoning all crew members to safety. Following the emergency protocols, the Captain communicated the incident to the Singapore Port Operations Control Centre (POCC) via email, aided by the ship's agent. Authorities were quickly informed, including the Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF) and the Singapore Police Coast Guard. Indonesian authorities were also notified for further cooperation. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the crew members during this alarming incident.
