Collision Between Bulk Carrier and Trawler Near Island Batz

In the early hours of March 8, 2016, at approximately 3:10 a.m., a maritime incident occurred involving the French trawler "Pors Moguer - SB 735500" (IMO No.: 8713782) which weighs 110 gross tons. The collision took place about 30 miles northwest of the island of Batz. At the time, the trawler was en route to Bloscon in Roscoff when it struck the bulk carrier "Proteas", which was making its voyage from China to the port of Flushing. Despite sustaining considerable damage to its bow, the trawler successfully navigated to the port, arriving in Bloscon at 7:40 a.m. Meanwhile, the "Proteas" continued on its course to Flushing, where it was projected to arrive on March 9 at 2 a.m. Following the incident, representatives from the Coastguard Brest were dispatched to Roscoff to interview the crew of the "Pors Moguer". Conditions at the time of the accident included rough seas with a Beaufort scale rating of six; however, visibility remained good.
