Pon Detained in Pozzallo Due to Safety Violations
On April 29, 2025, the vessel 'Pon' faced detention in Pozzallo after being found with a staggering 19 deficiencies. Among these, nine were deemed serious enough to warrant the vessel's arrest. Key issues included: 1) Structural integrity compromised by improperly maintained asbestos materials; 2) Fire safety violations related to inadequate fire doors and openings in fire-resisting divisions; 3) Deficiencies in fire prevention measures impacting decks, bulkheads, and critical penetrations; 4) A lack of integrity in fire prevention structures; 5) Inoperative emergency lighting systems, batteries, and switches; 6) Insufficient training during mandatory fire drills; 7) Compromised water and weathertight conditions due to non-compliant ventilators and air pipes; 8) Inadequate provisions for crew; and 9) Damage to water pipes and tanks. Following the inspection, the vessel was released on May 16, 2025, under the condition that it would make a single journey to the Tuzla shipyard for essential repairs, with an expected arrival on May 20. Successful Refloating of Irtysh 1 After Grounding in Bourgas Bay
On February 8, 2010, the vessel ‘Irtysh 1’ met with misfortune as it ran aground in Bourgas Bay, near Kraimorie. In light of the owner's failed attempts at salvage, Multraship Salvage and SVITZER were called to action to ensure the safe refloating of the ship. Four tugs from Multraship, stationed in Bourgas, together with an expert salvage team from SVITZER, worked diligently to lift the ‘Irtysh 1’ from its stuck position. After ten intensive days of salvage operations, success was achieved, and the vessel was safely berthed in Bourgas for thorough inspections.
