Ukrainian Forces Launch Drone Strike on Tuapse Oil Terminal, Damaging Ships

Nov 03, 2025 11:03

In a significant escalation of tensions, Ukraine's military targeted the oil terminal located at the Black Sea port of Tuapse on the evening of November 1, 2025. The strike resulted in major damage to the loading facility and three vessels: the product tanker 'Pollux', the product tanker 'Coast Buster' (IMO: 9312913), and the Turkish-owned 'Chai' (IMO: 9275402). Utilizing piston-engined drones, which have become a hallmark of Ukraine's long-range aerial operations, the assault ignited at least three fires aboard the vessels and on the pier. NASA FIRMS fire detection systems captured an extensive infrared signature from the terminal, providing visual confirmation of the fires visible from satellite imagery. The aftermath of the attack included ongoing tracer fire from Russian air defense units, indicating continued engagement even after dawn on November 2. Furthermore, the strike led to a significant oil spill in the surrounding waters, compounding the environmental impact of the incident. This recent strike follows a previous attack on the Tuapse deepwater port in late September, which combined air strikes with surface drone incursions. During that earlier incident, at least one suicide drone boat successfully breached Russian defenses and targeted a loading pier. Missile Strike on Tanker 'Pollux' Near Yemen

Feb 18, 2024 16:00

On February 16, 2024, the tanker 'Pollux' was targeted by four anti-ship ballistic missiles, launched from Houthi-controlled regions in Yemen, located 72 nautical miles northwest of Mokha, Yemen. Throughout Friday, these missiles were fired into the Red Sea, with at least three aimed directly at the 'Pollux'. Fortunately, the ship sustained only minor damage, and the crew remained safe and unharmed. The 'Pollux' had embarked from Novorossiysk on January 24, with its destination set for Paradip, where the Indian Oil Company operates a significant oil refinery with a capacity of 300,000 barrels per day (bpd), scheduled to arrive by February 28. This tanker is managed by Sea Trade Marine SA and owned by Oceanfront Maritime Co. SA. Notably, another vessel nearby altered its course, moving away from the 'Pollux' just three nautical miles northeast, indicating possible concerns for safety in the area.
