Australian ship crew dumped for foreign workers
It's the end of an era, as the Pioneer bulk sugar carrier heads to Singapore for the last time with an Australian crew and flag. This ship's owner is sugar refiner and exporter Sugar Australia. The company and ship is 25 per cent owned by Mackay Sugar and 75 per cent owned by Singapore company Wilmar. Sugar Australia has decided to employ a foreign workforce, which will take over when the ship berths in Singapore on Tuesday. The ship's chief IR officer, Alex Fenn, has been with the Pioneer from the very start when he collected her from The Netherlands 17 years ago.
