In a significant development in the maritime sector, Geoscience company CGG has formally announced the termination of its charter agreement for the 'Viking Vision', a vessel owned by Norway's Eidesvik Offshore. Originally set to conclude at the end of July 2017, the contract has now been cancelled with immediate effect. As per the terms of the agreement, CGG will continue to remit the charter rate until the original termination date of July 2017. The 'Viking Vision' has been sitting idle in Langevagen for the past three months. CGG initially bareboat-chartered the vessel back in 2007 for an eight-year period, a contract that was later extended by an additional two years in 2011 when Eidesvik and CGG Veritas came together in a joint venture to operate a fleet of ten 3D seismic survey vessels. This latest move marks a significant shift in CGG’s operational strategy as it re-evaluates its fleet utilization.
