Midnight Collision on the Paraná River Involves Bunga Lotus and Barges
In the early hours of May 11, 2015, at approximately 3 a.m., the 'Bunga Lotus,' a tanker vessel traveling from Buenos Aires, encountered a serious incident on the Paraná River at kilometer 207, close to Ramallo. The vessel was in ballast and on a course toward San Lorenzo port to load 5,000 tons of biodiesel when it collided with three barges that were being pushed by a tugboat. The collision resulted in a breach to the tanker’s hull, specifically in the area of its bunker tanks, leading to a spill of around 15 cubic meters of fuel. Following the accident, both the 'Bunga Lotus' and the barges were secured and anchored at river kilometer 207.5.
