Oosterschelde saved single hand sailor
The "Oosterschelde" saved an Italian single hand sailor in the Atlantic on Feb 6, 2016, at 4.10. His yacht "Tarabaralla" was disabled and dismasted, taking on water. The MRCC Rome had lost VHF contact. Captain Maarten de Jong had received a distress call on Feb 5 at 6 p.m. while his ship was 90 miles away. The sailing vessel speeded towards the Situation and trid to contact the boat on sat phone and reached it on Feb 6 at 2.45 a.m. and took on board the skipper. His yacht had to be abandoned. The "Oosterschelde" was underway to Martinique, ETA Feb 14.

On Oct 3, 2012, the "Oosterschelde" departed from Rotterdam for a trip around the world. Princess Margriet and Rotterdam major Ahmed Aboutaleb were present at the Veerhaven in Rotterdam to wish the crew a safe trip and to say goodbye, the trip of the "Oosterschelde" will take 1,5 year which will go via Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica. By Oct 5, the ship was underway from Great Yarmouth to Boavista with an ETA of Nov 30.
