Ship banned from MOU ports for a year after numerous detentions

Feb 17, 2026 11:24

The 'Olga S', operated by the Regency Ship Management in Istanbul, has been banned from docking in European ports for a year. The reason was that the ship has already been detained three times due to defects, most recently in Rotterdam. Moreover, the ship sails under the flag of Tanzania, which is at the top of the blacklist of countries with a high risk of incidents. It was detained in Rotterdam on Jan 9, 2026, by Port State Control. This was the third time in 36 months that the ship was detained in a port covered by the Paris MOU. The ship has therefore been denied access to every port and anchorage within the Paris MOU area. The ship was still allowed to leave the port of Rotterdam on Jan 29, headed to Tuzla with an ETA as of March 1. The vessel has a very poor reputation, is poorrly maintained and regularly changes its name and flag. For example, the ship was previously named 'Casablanca', 'Olga', and 'Saar Casablanca'. Between 2022 and 2024, the 'Olga S' was also detained three times in European ports, including in 2023 in the port of Heraklion. The ship lacked adequate lifesaving equipment, a proper firefighting plan, had problems with the main engine, and had other shortcomings, such as electrical deficiencies. Less than a year later, it was detained again in the port of Chioggia,. The ship was then sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The ship was again detained and was initially banned from entering the port for three months. This was later extended to a year. The 'Olga S' was not allowed to dock in Europe again until August 2025. Since then, the ship has been detained three times.
