From food to furniture, cars to canteloupe, if it's for sale in Newfoundland and Labrador, at least half of it arrived through the Oceanex freight terminal in St. John's. The Broadcast recently took a tour of the privately-owned facility, while workers unloaded the Oceanex vessel Sanderling, one of three boats owned by the company. Sanderling Capt. Raymond Munden told Adey that Oceanex owns 2,500 containers and the crates can weigh anywhere between five tonnes and 35 tonnes.​ "We have no idea what's in those boxes. It could be beer. It could be ball bearings. Five fishermen were saved from a life-raft early June 18, 2010, after they were forced to abandon their burning boat off the coast of Cape Breton. The five aboard the "Oliver Branch" were eventually picked up by the "ASL Sanderling" about 112 kilometres east of the Canso causeway. The "ASL Sanderling", operated by the shipping firm Oceanex, was dispatched to rescue the fishermen. A Hercules military aircraft and a Cormorant search and rescue helicopter were also sent to the scene. Once it was determined the fishermen were in good condition, they were transferred to the coast guard cutter Spray and taken back to Nova Scotia.
