Fire at Oceanex Terminal
On Sep 14, 2015, smoke and flame erupted at Oceanex terminal in St. John's Dock next to the "Oceanex Connaigra". Emergency crews were called to St. John's harbour in the late afternoon, after smoke and flames were seen coming from a piece of equipment in the area. The cause of the smoke came from a crane that was next to the ship. The fire was contained and no injuries were reported. More trouble to propeller hub system
The "Oceanex Connaigra" is to be taken out of service again for the second since its arrival in St. John’s in October 2013. The "Oceanex Avalon" was to be reinstated to its former Montreal sailing schedule to maintain service between St. John’s and Montreal while the "Oceanex Connaigra" went to dry dock due to a systems malfunction similar to the one last fall. That malfunction resulted in the ship being kept in Boston while repairs were done on its main propeller hub system. The "Oceanex Connaigra" would return to dry dock as a precautionary measure after a final trip from Montreal to St. John’s on Apr 18. A company plan to reinstate the "Oceanex Cabot" to its former Montreal Tuesday sailing as of Apr 22 and return the Oceanex Avalon to its former Montreal Apr 25 sailing would allow the company to keep its regular scheduled service between Montreal and St. John’s.
