The "Ocean Crown" was salvaged on Dec 27. The ship's owner, Oceanfleet Shipping, contracted Smit Salvage, and the Lithuanian tugs "TAK 6" and "TAK 10" were deployed for the recovery. The two tugs started to pull it off the beach in the morning hours, and at 11.30 a.m. it came off the beach in winds of still 8-13 m/sec and was berthed at the general cargo terminal 7-12 in Klaipeda at 2.50 p.m. where it will be thorouughly inspected and the hull checked by divers. The ship had sailed in ballast from Gibraltar to Klaipeda, but due to adverseweather the Lithuanian authorities refused to call the port. The captain chose to anchor off the coast, but the anchors dragged, and after the main engine failed, the ship with its crew of 20 was pushed onto the beach only 200 meters from the shore. The ship left the port again on Jan 27, 2018, at 2.50 a.m., next being bound to Lagos; ETA Feb 14.
