Fire Continues Aboard the Kamala as Coastguard Efforts Persist

Jul 13, 2015 09:31

The container ship "Kamala" remains engulfed in flames as of July 12, 2023, while navigating toward the port city of Busan. The Korean Coastguard is actively combating the blaze using water cannons from a patrol vessel. Unfortunately, salvage crews have not yet been able to board the vessel due to challenging weather conditions. The incident occurred as the "Kamala" approached Jeju Island (Chedju do), where the fire has predominantly affected 30 deck containers in the front section of the ship. Fortunately, the situation appears to be under control with minimal risk of the fire spreading further. All crew members on board have been successfully evacuated and are reportedly in good health, with transport arranged to safely return them to shore.
