The stowaways were found aboard the 'MSC Stella' near the Lagos Fairway Buoy on April 19, 2026, around 5:05 p.m., following valuable intelligence from the Western Regional Control Centre (WRCC). The suspects have been identified as Aguru Michael, 27, hailing from the Benin Republic; Soye Monday, 25, from Ondo State; and Kentobou Peter, 22, from Delta State. Acting swiftly, the Quick Response Team (QRT) of NNS 'Beecroft', stationed at Tarkwa Bay, was deployed based on the intelligence report and managed to intercept the vessel approximately five nautical miles off the Lagos coastline. Investigations revealed that the trio had boarded the 'MSC Stella' on April 17 at around 1:00 a.m. while it was docked at Tin Can Island Port. The arrested stowaways are currently in the custody of NNS 'Beecroft' and are undergoing thorough investigations and processing in accordance with Nigerian laws. MSC Stella takes injured crewmembers from burning MSC Flaminia to Azores

DS Crown arrived on scene to confirm that the MSC Flaminia was still burning and recovered 24 people from a lifeboat and a liferaft. Four crew had suffered injuries. The injured crew have been transferred to the vessel MSC Stella which will take them to the Azores.
