Detention in Venice
**Title: MSC Nita Detained in Venice Due to Safety Deficiencies** In a recent incident, the cargo ship "MSC Nita" faced detention in the picturesque city of Venice on April 29, 2026. This action was taken after authorities discovered a total of eight deficiencies onboard, with four of them classified as serious enough to warrant the vessel's detention. The critical safety issues identified included: 1. Malfunctioning boiler alarm 2. Inoperative emergency lighting, batteries, and switches 3. An emergency power source that did not meet required standards – specifically, the emergency generator 4. Non-compliance with the International Safety Management (ISM) code regarding the ISM certificate Following a thorough inspection and subsequent rectification of the identified issues, the MSC Nita was released from detention on May 2, 2026. The vessel then resumed its journey, setting sail for Gioia Tauro. This incident underscores the importance of maintaining stringent safety standards within the maritime industry to ensure the well-being of all vessels and their crew.
Containers feill into port waters
Four 40-foot-containers fell over board from the 'MSC Nita' at pier A of the Tiv terminal in the Marghera harbour in Venice in the morning of Oct 23, 2022, during cargo operation. All boxes were empty. Two were pushed to the pier bya work boat of Transbagagli. The other two sank, but were hooked up and recovered later by the Transmar company. The container ship left Marghera again on Oct 24 and arrived in Trieste on Oct 25. The accident was caused by an error of the crane operator.
