Detention in Shanghai
**Title: MSC London Detained in Shanghai After Port State Control Inspection** In a recent development, the container ship 'MSC London' found itself detained in Shanghai on April 18, 2026, following a rigorous Port State Control inspection conducted under the auspices of the Tokyo Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). During the inspection, authorities identified six significant deficiencies, all deemed serious enough to warrant the detention of the vessel. The findings from the inspection raised critical concerns regarding the vessel's safety and compliance, resulting in immediate action. The Mediterranean Shipping Co. SRL, the company responsible for the management of the MSC London, is currently addressing these issues to secure the ship's re-approval for sea travel. After the detention, the MSC London was cleared and departed from Shanghai on the same day, April 18, with its next destination set for Shekou, where it is scheduled to arrive on April 21. This incident underscores the importance of strict adherence to maritime regulations and safety standards within the shipping industry.

MSC takes in new 15,908-TEU ship, crowning its fleet of 26 mega ships
Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) has taken in its largest ship, the MSC London, the first in a series of six 15,908-TEU vessels to be built at Korea's STX Shipyard on charter from Zodiac Maritime and Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS). Currently, the shipping line has 26 vessels in its fleet, ranging in size from 13,798 TEU to 14,000 TEU, reported Alphaliner. The six larger vessels were initially ordered in October 2010 by Zodiac Maritime as 13,000 TEU ships, but the contract was upgraded one year later to ships of 15,908 TEU. They are the first box ships of this size to be built there. Two of the six contracts were transferred last year from Zodiac to EPS within the context of a fleet split between the sons of the late Sammy Ofer. The MSC London is controlled by Zodiac. The MSC London is joining the Asia-Eastern Mediterranean Tiger service, where she will break capacity records at the ports of Istanbul and Piraeus.
