Cruise ships resuming their schedules in May
**Title: Exciting Summer Kickoff for Cruise Ships in May 2026** **Content:** The cruising world is set for a vibrant summer as several prominent ships prepare to embark on journeys in May 2026. Kicking off the season, the 'Mein Schiff 5', part of TUI Cruises, will set sail on May 15 from Heraklion, venturing into the stunning Eastern Mediterranean. Following closely, the 'Mein Schiff 4' is scheduled to launch its Adriatic adventures from Trieste on May 17, loveable testament to TUI Cruises' dedication to providing exceptional holiday experiences. Notably, the timing for both vessels is tight, especially since the trip around the southern tip of Africa exceeds three weeks and involves essential logistical stops. Meanwhile, MSC Cruises is gearing up for its own summer season with the 'MSC Euribia', which is expected to begin operations in Kiel on May 16, albeit two weeks behind schedule. This ship will offer breathtaking routes through the Norwegian fjords, including voyages from Kiel and Copenhagen. In other news, Celestyal Cruises is actively repositioning its fleet from the Middle East back to the Mediterranean. However, as the ships have turned off their Automatic Identification System (AIS), their exact locations remain murky. The 'Celestyal Discovery' appears to be on track toward the Suez Canal, while the 'Celestyal Journey' seems to be heading for Cape Town. Currently, all scheduled voyages are confirmed to proceed. The 'Celestyal Discovery' is anticipated to commence operations from Lavrion on May 22, followed by the 'Celestyal Journey' launching from Piraeus on May 23. In another highlight, the 'Aroya' from Aroya Cruises is making its way from the Persian Gulf, expected to dock in Jeddah on April 27. The vessel must first navigate a challenging route along the Yemeni coast and is slated to welcome guests in Jeddah on May 14. **Cruise Ship Launch Schedule Overview:** - **May 14, 2026**: Aroya (Aroya Cruises) in Jeddah - **May 15, 2026**: Mein Schiff 5 (TUI Cruises) in Heraklion - **May 16, 2026**: MSC Euribia (MSC Cruises) in Kiel - **May 17, 2026**: Mein Schiff 4 (TUI Cruises) in Trieste - **May 22, 2026**: Celestyal Discovery in Lavrion/Athens - **May 23, 2026**: Celestyal Journey in Piraeus/Athens As cruise lines gear up for an exciting summer, adventure-seeking travelers can look forward to an array of unforgettable experiences across the globe.
Cruises ship passed Strait of Hormuz
**Title: MSC Euribia Successfully Transits the Strait of Hormuz on Its Journey to Northern Europe** In a significant update from the high seas, MSC Cruises proudly announced that the 'MSC Euribia' has embarked on its journey from Dubai, successfully navigating the Strait of Hormuz. This strategic passage, carried out in close collaboration with pertinent maritime authorities, marks an important milestone for the cruise liner. Now steering towards Northern Europe, the ship is set to resume its cruise season with enhanced scheduling efficiency. In light of this swift transit, MSC Cruises confirmed that the upcoming departure on May 16 from Kiel, followed by another from Copenhagen on May 17, will proceed as initially planned. Passengers can rest assured that all subsequent voyages will also adhere to their original timetables, ensuring a seamless cruising experience ahead.
Four cruise ships speeding through Strait of Hormuz
**Title: Cruise Ships Navigate Strait of Hormuz Amid Tensions** In a significant development following the passage of the 'Celestyal Discovery' on April 17, four additional cruise ships have embarked on their journeys through the crucial Strait of Hormuz. The vessels 'Celestyal Journey' and 'Mein Schiff 5' departed from Doha, while 'Mein Schiff 4' set sail from Abu Dhabi, and 'MSC Euribia' left Dubai. Notably, the 'Aroya', which made its way from Dubai to Dammam at the end of March, has yet to embark. As of now, the 'Celestyal Journey', 'MSC Euribia', 'Mein Schiff 4', and 'Mein Schiff 5' are cruising at high speeds towards Khasab, a city strategically positioned along the Strait of Hormuz, an area that has faced closure by Iran in the past. Previously, only the 'Celestyal Discovery' has benefitted from the brief opening after a ceasefire. However, by the morning of April 18, Iran re-imposed restrictions on the passage, casting uncertainty on the shipping activities in the region. The anticipation surrounding the four cruise ships currently at sea is palpable, with expectations that they may seek to anchor in Khasab Bay to facilitate their exit from the Middle East as swiftly as possible. In light of the volatile situation, each ship operates with a reduced crew onboard, ensuring efficient navigation out of the Persian Gulf. Should they successfully traverse this crucial stretch in the coming hours or days, it could take up to four weeks for cruise services in Europe to resume normalcy. TUI Cruises and MSC Cruises have already suspended all sailings of the aforementioned vessels until mid-May 2026. By 1:45 p.m., reports confirmed that all four cruise ships had indeed made it into the Strait of Hormuz. Mirroring the trajectory of the 'Celestyal Discovery', these ships are charting a course close to the Omani coastline, with Muscat noted as their upcoming destination. The critical phase of this maritime passage is expected to be completed shortly, upon which shipping companies will determine the next steps for their journeys toward Europe. They may either opt for the direct route through the Red Sea and Suez Canal or choose a longer, albeit safer, detour around Africa.
Last passengers to leave cruise ship in Doha
**Title: Final Passengers Disembark from MSC Euribia in Doha** In Doha, the iconic cruise ship 'MSC Euribia' is undergoing a systematic evacuation as MSC Cruises works to bring its onboard adventure to a close. On March 12, by 11:00 a.m., all passengers were requested to disembark the vessel as the cruise line ramped up its repatriation efforts. Over 1,500 passengers have already been successfully returned home, with those who haven’t arranged their departure by the specified deadline instructed to leave the ship and find their own accommodations on land. MSC Cruises has organized a total of seven flights from the Middle East to facilitate the return of passengers, utilizing a mix of chartered flights, commercial bookings with airlines such as Emirates and Flydubai, as well as additional flights coordinated by various national governments. Repatriated passengers hail from numerous countries, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Spain, the United States, and Brazil. Throughout this transitional period, life aboard the 'MSC Euribia' has remained calm, with passengers enjoying access to the ship's amenities and services. It's essential for the vessel to be maintained in a state conducive to sailing on short notice. As the final passengers disembark, MSC Cruises continues to ensure a smooth and organized departure process for all travelers.
1500 passengers repatriated
**Title: MSC Cruises Successfully Repatriates Over 1,500 Passengers from Dubai** In a significant effort to ensure the safety of its guests amid the escalating military conflict in the Middle East, MSC Cruises has successfully organized repatriation flights for more than 1,500 passengers aboard the 'MSC Euribia' docked in Dubai. The cruise ship has been in port since March 1 due to the temporary closure of regional airspace. Starting on March 5, MSC began dispatching repatriation flights designed to bring passengers home. By the morning of March 6, a total of seven flights had already departed, showcasing the company's commitment to its travelers' well-being. These flights included specially arranged charter services funded by MSC Cruises, alongside partnerships with Emirates and Fly Dubai, facilitating access to regular commercial flights. Additionally, some passengers utilized flights organized by their respective governments, further broadening the options for safe return home. The repatriation initiative enabled travelers from diverse destinations, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Spain, the United States, and Brazil, to return safely. As MSC Cruises continues to navigate these challenging circumstances, the company remains dedicated to supporting its passengers and ensuring their safe and timely repatriation.
Most passengers on the way home
**Title: Return Journey Challenges for Passengers on "Mein Schiff 5" Amidst Unrest** On March 7, disruptions flared aboard the "Mein Schiff 5" as passengers faced confusion regarding flight capacities arranged by Qatar Airways. Guests who were accommodated in hotels in Doha received timely notifications during the night and were promptly escorted to the airport. Unfortunately, many passengers aboard only uncovered this information too late, resulting in frustrations. TUI Cruises acknowledged the complexity of the situation, citing specific regulations and challenges inherent in the region. "Given the ongoing dynamic circumstances and the limited flight options, we are maintaining close communication with airlines to facilitate reliable return travel plans. As soon as we obtain confirmed details, we will promptly notify the affected guests," a TUI Cruises spokesperson commented. Meanwhile, aboard the "Mein Schiff 4" docked in Abu Dhabi, the situation is markedly different, with the vessel nearly emptied of passengers—only a small group remained, primarily those with destinations outside Germany. The scenario on the "Mein Schiff 5," located in Doha, was labeled "somewhat more complex," as coordination involving the ship, local authorities, and airlines became increasingly challenging, leaving a majority of the approximately 3,000 passengers stranded at the port. In contrast, MSC Cruises has made significant progress with its operations. The "MSC Euribia," currently docked in Dubai, facilitated a smoother return process with most of its 6,000 passengers starting their travels home by March 6. MSC Cruises reported that by this date, seven flights transporting passengers had already taken off, including special charter flights organized by the cruise line, as well as services provided by Emirates, FlyDubai, and several government-organized flights.
MSC started repatriation flights
**Title: MSC Initiates Repatriation Service for Passengers in Dubai** In a significant move, cruise operator MSC has initiated a comprehensive repatriation plan for approximately 1,000 passengers stranded aboard the *MSC Euribia* in Dubai. The operation features five charter flights set to take off from the Emirati city, with the inaugural flight scheduled for March 5. Passengers have been kept informed throughout the process and are enjoying complete access to the ship's amenities, all at no additional cost, with MSC reporting a calm atmosphere onboard. Initially, MSC explored options with airline partners in the region, including renowned carriers Emirates and Etihad Airways, to facilitate return flights for their passengers. However, the cruise line opted for a more direct approach by arranging dedicated charter flights from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Muscat to enhance the speed of the repatriation efforts. This decision led to the launch of a dedicated air operation sponsored by MSC, enabling nearly 1,000 individuals to depart the region by March 7. The boarding process for these flights will follow a "first in, first out" policy, ensuring that the earliest passengers who boarded the cruise will be the first to disembark and take flight. The initial charters are set to arrive in Spain and Italy. Meanwhile, MSC continues to explore every possibility for the remaining passengers, assessing options for commercial flights, alternative charter services, and collaborating with government entities to secure seamless travel solutions.
More sailings cancelled
**Title: MSC Euribia Sailings Cancelled Amid Ongoing Middle East Conflict** **Dubai, UAE - March 1, 2026** – The cruise ship **MSC Euribia** has been immobilized in the port of Dubai, a consequence of the escalating conflict in the Middle East. The vessel, which arrived for a scheduled overnight stop on February 27, has led **MSC Cruises** to announce several cancellations of upcoming cruises. The situation worsened as of March 1, affecting multiple planned sailings. Initially, departures on February 28 and March 1, coinciding with a series of 7-night Middle Eastern itineraries, were cancelled. Following that, the cruise line announced the suspension of March 4 sailings, which included both a 3-night escape cruise and a longer 7-night journey. Now, guests booked for the March 7 cruise, another 7-night voyage from Dubai, have also been informed via email that their departure has been officially cancelled. This journey would have included stops at key destinations such as Doha in Qatar, Sir Bani Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, and Khalifa Bin Salman in Bahrain. MSC Cruises communicated to affected guests that, “Due to the current situation and the closure of airspace across the Middle East region, your cruise aboard MSC Euribia departing from Dubai, United Arab Emirates on March 7, 2026, has been cancelled.” All guests will automatically receive full refunds within 30 days, with no additional action required on their part. Looking ahead, **MSC Euribia** has additional sailings scheduled for March 8, 11, 14, 15, and 18, all of which remain under threat of cancellation as the situation evolves. This vessel is among six cruise ships currently being held in the region, alongside the **Celestyal Discovery** and **Aroya Manara** in Dubai, the **Mein Schiff 4** in Abu Dhabi, and the **Mein Schiff 5** and **Celestyal Journey** in Doha. The vessels are unable to navigate to safer waters due to the hazardous conditions surrounding the **Strait of Hormuz**, which is notably narrow, spanning just 21 to 33 miles between Iran to the north and Oman/UAE to the south. This critical waterway has been closed to all shipping traffic and civilian vessels until further notice. Safety concerns at the Dubai port have also restricted the disembarkation of current passengers, although they are permitted to go ashore briefly within the cruise terminal vicinity. To enhance comfort during this extended wait, complimentary Wi-Fi has been made available for all guests on board. Under prior arrangements, **MSC Euribia** is slated to be transferred to Kiel, Germany, after the conclusion of its Orient cruises, with an expected arrival date of May 2 for the start of the Northern Europe cruise season. However, whether the ship will be able to recommence operations at that time hinges on the restoration of safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz. As developments unfold, travelers are advised to remain informed about their upcoming itineraries and any potential impacts.
Thousands of passengers stuck in UAE ports
**Title: Uncertainty Persists as Thousands of Passengers Remain Stranded in UAE Ports** **Content:** As of March 1, a troubling situation unfolds for passengers aboard TUI's cruise ships "Mein Schiff 4" and "Mein Schiff 5," as well as the "MSC Euribia." All passengers have returned to their vessels, but the fate of these three cruise liners remains uncertain, with a total of six ships docked at ports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar. Ongoing military activities in the Persian Gulf have heightened tensions, with recent, unverified reports suggesting that Iranian navy vessels are now being targeted. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for maritime traffic, has been effectively closed to shipping by Iran, leaving vessels with no immediate escape routes. Only those with affiliations to China or Russia were permitted to navigate through the strait overnight. Approximately 2,000 passengers aboard the "Mein Schiff 4" were originally scheduled to depart from Dubai on March 1, with plans to welcome another 2,000 arriving passengers from Germany. However, the slated "Magic of the Orient" cruise to Oman, meant to launch on March 2 at 10:30 p.m., has been indefinitely suspended. Meanwhile, the "Mein Schiff 5" has been stranded in Qatar since February 28, following the conclusion of its cruise. Unable to board their flights as planned, many passengers found themselves redirected back to the ship after an extensive wait at Doha airport. Reports indicate that after a ten-hour ordeal, travelers were returned to the ship due to chaotic conditions at the airport. Some passengers even received urgent alerts on their phones warning of incoming missile strikes. Thankfully, the vessel's captain assured everyone onboard of constant communication with the German embassy and TUI's land representatives, advising passengers to remain patient and on board despite a lack of updates for an extended period. Passengers were left without their luggage, which they had to abandon at the airport. With access to basic supplies limited, they were directed to the onboard shop for toiletries and clothing, but popular items like underwear quickly sold out. The "Mein Schiff 5" was also meant to depart Doha on March 1 at 10 p.m. In addition to these vessels, the "MSC Euribia" was docked at Port Rashid in Dubai, also facing cancellation of its Gulf and Oman cruise due to escalating conflict, which was announced just after hostilities began on February 28. Other ships like the "Aroya" from Aroya Cruises and the "Celestyal Discovery" from Celestyal Cruises remain at port in Dubai, with another Celestyal vessel, "Celestyal Journey," alongside the "Mein Schiff 5" in Doha. Repatriation flights can only commence once airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar resume operations. TUI Cruises noted that the German Federal Foreign Office has since updated its travel and security recommendations for the region, implementing travel warnings. In light of the situation, the company requested that passengers refrain from seeking updates on their subsequent cruise schedules, emphasizing that the ships will remain at port with minimal risk reported thus far. Passengers aboard these vessels have been instructed to avoid outdoor areas and windows due to the proximity of drone and missile threats to nearby port facilities. With plans for the cruise ships to leave the Persian Gulf towards the end of March and early April for routes around Africa to Europe, the "MSC Euribia" is set for its last departure from Dubai on April 4, and is expected to dock in Kiel on May 2. The "Mein Schiff 4" and "Mein Schiff 5" aim to embark on their Mediterranean summer itineraries by the end of March, but uncertainty continues to loom over their immediate future.
Cruise ship passenger arrested
On Aug 10, 2024, the federal police arrested a Ukrainian, who was aboard the "MSC Euribia", in the port of Kiel. The 53-year-old man was arrested during entry control. The officers' routine comparison of the passenger list before entering the port resulted in the manhunt. The Hamburg public prosecutor's office had issued an arrest warrant against the man for tax evasion from a previous case. The arrest warrant had been suspended at the time in favour of deportation to Ukraine. However, it remains valid in the event of re-entry or a return to Germany. After the police measures had been completed, he must now serve the remainder of his prison sentence of 1,152 days for tax evasion. It is unclear why the man booked a cruise with a German port of call despite the entry ban. He may have assumed that there would be no border controls when traveling in the Schengen area. The arrest warrant would no longer have been valid next year, according to the federal police. He may have boarded in Copenhagen and had not taken into account that the federal police check all lists of passengers and crew members before entering a German port as part of border police measures.
Passenger fell over board and was rescued
A passenger went overboard while the 'MS Euribia', en route from Aalesund to Flåm, was sailing through the Sognefjorden on June 6, 2024, at around 3:30 a.m. LT. The incident happened near Flåm. The ship had planned to dock all day in the port. The ship stopped a little more than 50 miles west-northwest of the port, and turned around. A helicopter rescued the passenger, who was transferred to a hospital. No other details about how the man fell off the ship have been revealed. The ship has mainly stayed on schedule despite the incident, and arrived back in Kiel on Juen 8.
Positioning trips cancelled due to safety situation
After the trips had no longer been bookable for a few weeks, MSC Cruises has now finally canceled the positioning trips from Kiel to Dubai with the 'MSC Euribia'. Due to the security situation on the Red Sea, where ships are being attacked by the Houthi rebels off the coast of Yemen, MSC Cruises has now reacted early to ensure security for booked guests. The 2024 summer season ends on October 19, 2024 in Kiel. The last guests of a one-week fjord cruise from/to Kiel and the guests of a six-day cruise from Copenhagen to Kiel will disembark there. MSC Cruises currently seems to be planning a trip around Africa for the 'MSC Euribia' without guests in order to safely move the ship from the summer sailing area in Northern Europe to the winter sailing area on the Persian Gulf. The first cruise in the Orient is scheduled to begin in Dubai on Nov 16, 2024. All sailings with the 'MSC Euribia' from Oct 19 to Nov 15 have therefore been cancelled. This applies to the Grand Voyage from Northern Europe to the Orient, which could also be booked in shorter sections. The period from Oct 19 to Nov 16 should be enough to take the 'MSC Euribia' from Kiel to Dubai without guests. New cruises to destinations in Africa are unlikely to be possible given the relatively short cancellation period. In addition to the 'MSC Euribia', according to the original schedule, the 'MSC Musica' is also scheduled to sail through the Red Sea in autumn 2024 to get to South Africa from the Mediterranean. Trips in the period from Oct 29, 2024 to Nov 22 cannot currently be booked. An alternative for the journey from Genoa to Durban is still unknown. Here, too, there could be travel cancellations or a new itinerary along the coast of West Africa.
