Detention in Bastia
**Title: Moby Kiss Detained in Bastia: Technical Hurdles Affecting Seasonal Service** **Content:** The ferry 'Moby Kiss', a vessel operated by the Italian shipping company Moby Lines, has been sidelined in the port of Bastia since May 13, 2026. This immobilization followed a thorough technical inspection conducted by maritime safety authorities, which uncovered several deficiencies in the ferry's operations. As of May 18, 'Moby Kiss' remains docked and is unable to resume its vital route connecting Bastia and Livorno due to ongoing issues, including a significant pump failure. Having arrived in Bastia on May 12 from Livorno for a routine pre-commercial safety evaluation, 'Moby Kiss' underwent a comprehensive check by the Ship Safety Center. The inspection revealed that several technical repairs were necessary—primarily addressing a malfunctioning pump. Unfortunately, these repairs are expected to take several days to complete. Once repairs are finalized, they will need to be validated by two oversight bodies, RINA from Italy and the French Ship Safety Center, before the ferry can return to service. In an effort to mitigate any disruption to the ferry service, Moby Lines has swiftly arranged for a substitute vessel, the 'Moby Aki', to pick up the slack on the routes between Bastia and Livorno. This proactive solution should help maintain connectivity for passengers and cargo while 'Moby Kiss' undergoes essential maintenance.
