Working Conditions Aboard the Meratus-Kolaka

On May 13, 2026, a maritime mishap unfolded on the Mahatma River as the cargo vessel 'Spil Ratna' (IMO: 9886811) collided with the 'Meratus Kolawa', which was traveling from Jakarta to Balikpapan. This incident took place in a narrow area of the river near Kutai Kartanegara, within the Muara Jawa District of East Kalimantan, which connects Samarinda to the upstream regions. As a result of the collision, eight shipping containers filled with logistics products were dislodged and began to drift downstream. The 'Spil Ratna' accidentally crashed into the starboard side of the 'Meratus Kolawa', inflicting substantial damage above the waterline. In response to the incident, the port authority KSOP mobilized teams to recover and secure the lost containers, while local fishermen and boat operators were placed on high alert for drifting cargo.
