TUI ships underway with skeleton crew

Apr 29, 2026 21:56

Title: TUI’s Mein Schiff Fleet Sets Sail with Minimal Crew Ahead of European Comeback As the cruise industry gears up for a much-anticipated revival, TUI’s ‘Mein Schiff 4’ and ‘Mein Schiff 5’ have embarked on their voyages with a significantly reduced crew. Both vessels are set to begin welcoming guests back in early May, reflecting the gradual re-emergence of the cruise sector in Europe. Amidst this transition, the ‘Mein Schiff 4’, typically crewed by about 900 personnel, navigated with just 59 essential staff members on board, ensuring key operations remain functional. In a strategic move, while other ships relocated through the Suez Canal, these TUI vessels chose a route that took them around Africa. The ‘Mein Schiff 5’ is scheduled to dock in Cape Town on April 28, while the ‘Mein Schiff 4’ is expected to arrive a day later, on April 29. Looking ahead, both ships are set to resume guest services in the Eastern Mediterranean by mid-May, marking the kickoff of the summer cruising season in this scenic region. Cruisers can look forward to the ‘Mein Schiff 4’ launching journeys from Italy to the picturesque Adriatic Sea, whereas ‘Mein Schiff 5’ will offer exciting itineraries across the Aegean Sea, Malta, and Egypt, starting from Greece. With the easing of restrictions, the return of these beloved vessels marks a significant milestone in reviving maritime tourism in Europe.

Cruise ships resuming their schedules in May

Apr 21, 2026 10:39

**Title: Exciting Cruise Ship Comeback Scheduled for May** As the cruise industry ramps up operations, several prominent vessels are set to relaunch this May, igniting enthusiasm among travelers eager for maritime adventures. The 'Mein Schiff 5,' operated by TUI Cruises, is slated to kick off its summer season on May 15, embarking from Heraklion to explore the stunning Eastern Mediterranean waters. Meanwhile, crew members are expected to reunite with both the 'Mein Schiff 4' and 'Mein Schiff 5' in Cape Town and Malta as they prepare for their upcoming voyages. On May 17, the 'Mein Schiff 4' will set sail from Trieste, marking the start of its Adriatic cruise season. Due to the extensive journey required to navigate around Africa—which typically exceeds three weeks and includes required stops—scheduling for TUI's vessels has proven to be quite challenging. Adding to the anticipation, the 'MSC Euribia' of MSC Cruises is also on the brink of its summer season, with a scheduled launch in Kiel on May 16, albeit slightly delayed. This ship will offer routes through the breathtaking Norwegian fjords, traveling from Kiel to Copenhagen. In the meantime, Celestyal Cruises is in the process of relocating its fleet from the Middle East back to the Mediterranean. However, with their AIS systems turned off, the specific transit routes of their ships remain unclear. The 'Celestyal Discovery' is reportedly headed towards the Suez Canal, while the 'Celestyal Journey' appears to have its sights set on Cape Town. All scheduled itineraries are still set to go, suggesting that the 'Celestyal Discovery' will commence operations on May 22 from Lavrion, with ‘Celestyal Journey’ following suit on May 23 from Piraeus. Lastly, the 'Aroya,' a member of Aroya Cruises, is the final cruise ship to depart the Persian Gulf, set to arrive in Jeddah on April 27. Ahead of welcoming guests, it faces a crucial passage along the Yemeni coast. If everything goes according to plan, this ship will receive its first guests in Jeddah on May 14. **Upcoming Cruise Ship Launch Dates:** - **May 14, 2026**: Aroya (Aroya Cruises) in Jeddah - **May 15, 2026**: Mein Schiff 5 (TUI Cruises) in Heraklion - **May 16, 2026**: MSC Euribia (MSC Cruises) in Kiel - **May 17, 2026**: Mein Schiff 4 (TUI Cruises) in Trieste - **May 22, 2026**: Celestyal Discovery in Lavrion/Athens - **May 23, 2026**: Celestyal Journey in Piraeus/Athens With these scheduled relaunches, the cruise industry is poised for a vibrant summer, encouraging adventurers worldwide to set sail on unforgettable journeys!

Cancelled cruises reinstated after ships fled Arabian Sea

Apr 20, 2026 11:57

**Title: Reinstatement of Cancelled Cruises as Mein Schiff Fleet Sets Sail from Arabian Sea** In a promising turn of events, TUI Cruises has confirmed that the much-anticipated reinstatement of previously cancelled cruises for the 'Mein Schiff 4' and 'Mein Schiff 5' is now on track. Following their successful departure from the Orient region, both vessels are en route to Cape Town, with an estimated time of arrival set for April 28. This development paves the way for the ships to return to their standard itineraries shortly thereafter. The affected cruises, which were initially put on hold, include the 'Mein Schiff 4' scheduled to depart from Trieste on May 17 and the 'Mein Schiff 5' slated to leave Heraklion on May 15, 2026. TUI Cruises expressed its satisfaction over the ships' swift return to operations, emphasizing the importance of resuming regular schedules across the fleet. As part of this operational transition, crew members are set to rejoin their respective vessels in Cape Town and Malta. Preparations are underway to ensure that both ships are ready to welcome guests back on board, with plans in place to greet travelers in Trieste and Heraklion as originally planned. The dedicated efforts of the TUI Cruises team signal a bright horizon for cruise enthusiasts and the broader maritime industry alike.

TUI ships heading to Cape Town

Apr 19, 2026 13:36

**Title: TUI Cruises' Ships Set Sail for Cape Town with Mediterranean Destination Ahead** In an exciting turn of events, TUI Cruises' vessels, the 'Mein Schiff 4' and 'Mein Schiff 5', are charting a course to Cape Town after successfully navigating the challenging Strait of Hormuz. This remarkable journey around Africa will culminate in a scheduled stop in South Africa on April 28. After several days navigating the Indian Ocean, the ships are poised to replenish fuel, provisions, and welcome new crew members upon their arrival in Cape Town. Currently, for safety considerations, both ships are operating with a minimal crew. TUI Cruises announced this successful passage through the Strait of Hormuz on the evening of April 18, extending appreciation to their captains and crews along with all those whose professionalism and vigilance facilitated this critical journey. Looking forward, TUI Cruises is dedicated to ensuring a swift transition towards the Mediterranean, with additional scheduling details to be revealed shortly. This journey follows the recent cancellation of numerous cruises aboard the 'Mein Schiff 4' and 'Mein Schiff 5', which were abruptly halted due to the onset of hostilities approximately two and a half months ago. Stay tuned for more updates as TUI Cruises continues its voyage.

Crew reduced to 59

Mar 25, 2026 11:16

**Title: Reduced Crew on Mein Schiff 4 Amid Uncertainty in Abu Dhabi** **Content:** The situation aboard the 'Mein Schiff 4' remains critical as TUI Cruises has taken the step to reduce its crew to just 59 members while the vessel is docked in Abu Dhabi. With the ship currently laid up after the last passengers disembarked, a minimal crew is now tasked with essential operations. Captain Jan Fortun leads the nautical and technical team, which is on standby for an opportunity to navigate the Strait of Hormuz. However, as of now, there is no clear indication of when such a window might arise. Additionally, some crew members are likely onboard to support essential maintenance tasks, ensuring that critical systems remain operational and ready for a future return to service. The next scheduled departure for the 'Mein Schiff 4' is set for May 1, with plans to embark from Mallorca for the much-anticipated "Wildcat Tattoo Cruise" event. It's important to note that the planned voyage from Cape Town to Palma de Mallorca, originally slated for April 11 to May 1, has unfortunately been canceled. The broader security situation in the Persian Gulf is a pivotal factor for TUI Cruises as it makes decisions regarding future sailings. This uncertainty extends beyond the 'Mein Schiff 4' to other vessels, including the 'Mein Schiff 5' docked in Doha, Qatar, and four other cruise ships stranded in the region: the 'Celestyal Discovery' and 'Celestyal Journey' from Celestyal Cruises, the 'MSC Euribia' from MSC Cruises, and the 'Aroya' from Aroya Cruises. As the conditions evolve, travelers and industry stakeholders will be closely monitoring the developments impacting these cruise operations.

Cruise ships still stuck in Persian Gulf

Mar 16, 2026 18:49

**Title: Mein Schiff 4 and Mein Schiff 5 Remain Stranded in the Persian Gulf** The situation in the Persian Gulf continues to hold the "Mein Schiff 4" and "Mein Schiff 5" at a standstill, with both cruise ships unable to navigate the waters. As many passengers have disembarked, a skeleton crew remains aboard, awaiting the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Currently, there is uncertainty regarding potential cruise cancellations; however, TUI has confirmed that no voyages have been officially cancelled at this time. This predicament presents a logistical headache for the cruise operator as both vessels were intended to embark on an ambitious journey around Africa before heading back to Europe. According to TUI's itinerary, "Mein Schiff 4" was scheduled to rendezvous with passengers in Cape Town this coming April, making its way to Mallorca thereafter. Meanwhile, "Mein Schiff 5" was poised to kick off a cruise towards the eastern Mediterranean later that same month. With the cruise season for the Gulf region now concluded and no immediate plans for future voyages in sight, the outlook remains precarious. Despite the rising oil prices, TUI has indicated that these market fluctuations are not expected to immediately impact their travel rates, thanks to advantageous arrangements made in advance. As the situation develops, patrons and crew alike are left awaiting news of when these magnificent ships will once again set sail.

Repatriation of TUI guests and personnel progressing

Mar 11, 2026 10:54

**Title: TUI Cruises Advances Repatriation Efforts for 'Mein Schiff' Guests and Crew** **Content:** The repatriation process for guests and crew members aboard the 'Mein Schiff 4' and 'Mein Schiff 5' is making significant strides. In the case of the 'Mein Schiff 4', the return flights for German passengers have now been deemed a resounding success. Over the course of this operation, a total of 13 flights have facilitated the safe return of both passengers and crew to Europe and their respective home nations. From Dubai, ten flights successfully transported guests to German cities such as Munich, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt/Main, and Hamburg. Crew members also received special arrangements, with a dedicated flight to Manila. Additionally, two flights were organized from Muscat to Frankfurt, enhancing the repatriation efforts even further. Meanwhile, the return of 'Mein Schiff 5' guests is also progressing well, with approximately 600 individuals returning to Germany on a Saudia charter flight from Riyadh. Moreover, extra seating was utilized on Qatar Airways flights departing from Doha. On March 10 and 11, a series of return flights continued to aid repatriation: two Saudia charter flights, alongside additional flights from Sundair and LEAV Aviation, successfully brought back over 1,200 guests from the 'Mein Schiff 5'. On the evening of March 10 alone, five flights had already enabled the return of 'Mein Schiff 5' guests, featuring four special flights from Riyadh to Munich, Frankfurt, and Cologne, alongside one Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Frankfurt. To further support this effort, two more charter flights from Riyadh are scheduled for March 11, potentially allowing around 450 additional guests to return to Germany. TUI Cruises remains committed to providing comprehensive support, diligently exploring every possible travel option across available airports in the region. The cruise line is actively collaborating with airlines to ensure maximum accommodation for guests and crew members, prioritizing their safe and timely return.

5000 passengers remained stuck, more sailings cancelled

Mar 05, 2026 11:36

**Title: TUI Cruises Faces Passenger Crisis as 5,000 Stranded Amid Voyage Cancellations** In a significant crisis, TUI Cruises has mobilized a dedicated crisis team in response to the predicament affecting passengers aboard the 'Mein Schiff 4' and 'Mein Schiff 5'. With approximately 5,000 guests remaining on these ships, the cruise line is diligently working alongside its airline partners to facilitate return travel, possibly beginning on March 6. TUI Cruises is exploring a range of alternative options, including different routes, diverted airports, and regional facilities outside the immediate conflict zones. In an effort to support families of those impacted, the company has set up a specialized hotline, operational daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at +49 40 60001 5403. The situation has led to the cancellation of several voyages. Specifically, itineraries for the 'Mein Schiff 4' scheduled to set sail on March 1, 2, 8, and 9 have been impacted, while the 'Mein Schiff 5' has seen cancellations for departures on February 28 and March 5. Altogether, around 30,000 travelers associated with German tour operators are currently in the affected region or have flights booked via airports in turmoil. As of March 3, passengers aboard the 'Mein Schiff 4' have experienced their first opportunity to disembark the vessel since the onset of hostilities. They were permitted to explore Abu Dhabi, provided they stay vigilant by receiving alerts on their smartphones while ashore. Limited access has been granted to certain sections of the ship's outer decks, notably on Deck 12, although open areas such as Deck 14 remain off-limits. A pivotal moment occurred when the inaugural special Emirates flight departed from Dubai to Munich at 3:50 p.m. local time on March 3, carrying 218 passengers from the 'Mein Schiff 4'. Organized transportation facilitated their transfer from the ship's berth to Dubai earlier that morning. Passengers retain the option to stay aboard until their flight departure. Due to ongoing developments in the region, all Middle East cruise voyages on the 'Mein Schiff 4' through March 9 and on the 'Mein Schiff 5' through March 12 have been canceled. This also includes the planned repositioning cruise set for March 12, which was meant to transition the 'Mein Schiff 5' from Dubai to Cape Town. TUI Cruises remains committed to keeping passengers and their families updated as they navigate this challenging situation amidst ongoing maritime disruptions.

Drone strike near cruise ship

Mar 03, 2026 11:28

**Title: Tensions Rise as Drone Incident Occurs Near 'Mein Schiff 4' in Abu Dhabi** On March 1, chaos erupted near the Zayed Port of Abu Dhabi when passengers aboard the 'Mein Schiff 4' received a critical alert on their mobile devices at approximately 4:30 p.m. Crew members quickly directed all travelers to gather in the ship's theater, advising them to stay indoors, away from windows, and to remain composed as a drone alarm echoed throughout the vessel. The source of the alarm was two Iranian missile-equipped drones that collided with a warehouse located at the Al Salam naval base close to the port, resulting in a deafening explosion that sent tremors throughout the area. Passengers onboard reported hearing a significant bang and witnessing thick plumes of black smoke from the incident. In response to the unfolding crisis, the crew enacted emergency safety protocols while TUI Cruises took immediate steps to ensure the safety of their approximately 3,500 passengers and crew members. The cruise line communicated that the ship would remain docked in Abu Dhabi as the situation was assessed. TUI Cruises has also made the decision to cancel future embarkations and is actively coordinating with airlines to facilitate reliable return flights for affected passengers. With a strong focus on passenger safety, the cruise line has set up a Family Hotline to reassure loved ones about the wellbeing of those on board.

Thousands of passengers stuck in UAE ports

Mar 01, 2026 13:17

**Title: Uncertainty Looms for Thousands of Passengers Trapped in UAE Ports Amid Rising Tensions** As of March 1, thousands of passengers aboard TUI's "Mein Schiff 4" and "Mein Schiff 5," along with the "MSC Euribia," are facing an uncertain situation while docked at ports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar. Fortunately, all travelers have returned safely to their respective ships, but the next steps remain unclear. The Persian Gulf has become a scene of increased military activity, with unverified reports indicating that Iranian naval forces are now being targeted in military strikes. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for shipping, has been closed by Iran, leaving vessels in the Gulf without escape routes. Over the past night, only vessels linked to China or Russia were permitted passage through the strait. Originally, around 2,000 passengers on the "Mein Schiff 4" were to embark for Germany on March 1, making way for another group of 2,000 travelers arriving from Germany. This ship had been scheduled to commence a seven-day "Magic of the Orient" cruise to Oman on March 2 at 10:30 PM, a plan that has now been suspended indefinitely. The scenario is similarly dire for passengers of the "Mein Schiff 5" in Qatar, who have been stranded in Doha since February 28 after concluding their cruise. Some travelers found themselves aboard aircraft that were forced to return to the airport, where they spent nearly ten hours waiting before being escorted back to their ship. Amid this chaos, alerts regarding incoming missiles from Qatar's Civil Defense have repeatedly appeared on passengers’ smartphones. Passengers of the "Mein Schiff 5" expressed concerns about the lack of communication, having not heard from their cruise line for over 12 hours. When informed that it was safer to remain onboard due to the disarray at Doha airport — which featured long lines and little guidance — travelers were directed to the ship’s store for essentials, including toiletries and clothing. However, the onboard supply of underwear completely ran out. The "MSC Euribia," docked at Port Rashid in Dubai, also faced a canceled cruise, having been set to depart on March 1 for a tour of the Gulf and Oman. Following the initial conflict reports on the morning of February 28, MSC Cruises promptly announced the cancellation of their sailing plans. Additional vessels, such as the "Aroya" from the Saudi line Aroya Cruises and Greece’s "Celestyal Discovery," are similarly docked in Dubai, while another Celestyal ship, "Celestyal Journey," is in Qatar alongside the "Mein Schiff 5." Repatriation efforts by air can only begin once airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar are operational again. TUI Cruises noted that they are coordinating with the German Federal Foreign Office, which recently updated travel and security guidelines for the region, rendering current cruise operations unfeasible. Passengers have been advised to refrain from seeking updates on the future of "Mein Schiff 4" and "Mein Schiff 5," as definitive answers are currently unavailable. The cruise line has confirmed that the ships will remain docked until further notice, with no damages reported from Iranian attacks thus far. Due to nearby port facilities being targeted, passengers have been instructed to avoid open areas and windows. As the situation develops, the ships are planned to set sail out of the Persian Gulf towards the end of March and into early April, heading around Africa back to Europe. Notably, the "MSC Euribia" has its final Dubai departure on April 4 and is scheduled to arrive in Kiel by May 2. Likewise, the "Mein Schiff 4" and "Mein Schiff 5" are slated to commence their Mediterranean summer cruises at the end of March.

On the morning of July 23, the 'Mein Schiff 4' arrived back in Bremerhaven.

Oct 14, 2023 19:20

In the morning of Oct 14, 2023, the 'Mein Schiff 4', en route from Parlma de Mallorca to Gibraltar, requested the medical evacuation of a passenger due to heart problems.
