Medal assisted in rescue of trawler crew
Enroute Gebze-Brest the "Medal" assisted the distressed Irish Trawler "Rebecca Elizabeth" on Mar 11, 2013. The trawler had suffered an engine breakdown and water ingress in stormy weather in the Bay of Biscay and was taken in tow towards Burela. But in heavy weather the vessel sank while under tow. One crew member was rescued by the SAR vessel "Gavia", and another rescued by the SAR helicopter Pesca 2. At 10.45 a.m. the "Medal" informed about the Situation of the trawler and acted as a communication link between shore and ship.
