Coast Guard Medevacs Man from Gulf of Alaska Container Ship
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter medevaced a crewman from a container ship in the Gulf of Alaska about 200 miles east of Kodiak Saturday afternoon. According to Coast Guard spokesperson Petty Officer 2 nd Class Grant DeVuyst, watchstanders received a report at about noon Saturday (July 19) that the 39-year-old man was suffering from exposure to chemicals in cleaning supplies aboard the 700-foot Horizon Kodiak. An MH-60 Jayhawk and HC-130 Hercules search plane were both launched to the scene, taking about an hour to reach the ship.
