Power restored to get ship to La Spezia
Batteries were brought aboard the Master Nasser' on Jan 11 in rough seas, a technician was transferred by boat, the systems were restored, and the vessel was able to return under own power to La Spezia on Jan 12 under escort from the Port Authority and moored off the harbour, where it remained stationary in pos. 44Β° 04' N 009Β° 53' E as of Jan 13. The power outage had left the ship with no communications in severe seas about 15 miles off the coast of Viareggio. The priority was to bring batteries aboard and restore at least a minimum level of power. The coordination was entrusted to Mario Tagliercio's Dani Shipping, with operational support from Dani Yachting and direction by Karina Sushynska. The technical intervention was carried out by engineer Roberto Sattanino, with underwater and logistical support from Lenci Sub, led by Daniele Lenci. The safety and monitoring operations were coordinated by the Livorno Maritime Rescue Secondary Center, with the support of the Coast Guard's National Operations Center. As a precaution, a helicopter was also activated from the Sarzana base, while several merchant ships in the area were alerted for possible support. The technician's transfer aboard was not immediate. The sea conditions required caution, and it was not possible to reach the ship on the evening of Jan 10. Rescue units arrived only on the morning of Jan11. The Viareggio Port Authority took charge, providing its own vessel, along with a private vessel carrying technical equipment. The ship had no power and no communications. In addition to the batteries, radio equipment and technical materials had to be transported as well as engineer Satanini.. Once on board, the taska of identifying the fault and restoring the electrical system began. A total blackout at sea means having every system inoperable, from propulsion to auxiliary equipment to safety systems. The intervention required time and gradual work, but ultimately the systems were reactivated thanks to the technical expertise deployed. With power restored, the ship was made ready to sail. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard continued to constantly monitor the vessel, which during the most critical period had been anchored about five miles from the coast, in an area deemed safer. Once the assistance was completed, the 'Master Nasser' resumed its course toward La Spezia under its own power, escorted by the Harbour Master until its arrival. Near the port, a Dani Shipping vessel picked up Engineer Sattanino and brought him back to shore. All the equipment provided by the Coast Guard, including radios and materials, was returned. The 'Master Nasser' had been inspected in La Spezia in Oct 2025 and, previously, in Piraeus, where some deficiencies deemed temporarily tolerable were detected. In Italy, however, the vessel was banned from sailing and authorised to depart only after the deficiencies were resolved. Power outage in Tyrrhenian Sea
The Italian Coast Guard responded to a distress call of the 'Master Maser' on the afternoon of Jan 9, 2026, which had suffered a power outage off the coast of Tuscany. The ship was enroute from La Spezia to Durres, when it went adrift in stormy seas. The assistance operations were coordinated by the Livorno Maritime Rescue Secondary Center, with the support of the Coast Guard's National Operations Center. As a precaution, a helicopter was also deployed from the Sarzana base. Several merchant vessels were diverted to assist the vessel, which was meanwhile being monitored by the Coast Guard's National Operations Center and a helicopter from the nearby Sarzana Air Base. Despite the adverse weather and sea conditions, no significant problems were reported for the crew or the marine environment. The vessel could be anchored approximately five nautical miles off the coast of Viareggio in pos. 43Β° 51' N 010Β° 07 E, where it remained stationary, awaiting more favourable weather conditions for towing operations, as of Jan 12. The vessel was most recently inspected in the port of La Spezia in October 2025 and authorised to depart only after the identified deficiencies were resolved. in February 2025, the 'Master Nasser' had been inspected in Piraeus, where some deficiencies were found, which the Greek inspectors, however, had deemed temporarily tolerable, allowing it to continue sailing.
