Fire on freighter in Harlingen
In the evening of July 9, 2018, a fire broke out aboard the 'Marfaam', which was berthed in the New Fishing Port of Harlingen. An aerial platform below deck was on fire and caused heavy smoke which escaped after opening the hatches. The fire service advised local residents to keep windows and doors closed. The fire department could quickly extinguish the fire. There were no people on board when the fire broke out. After the flames were extinguished, the ship was ventilated. It had sailed six days ago from IJmuiden to Harlingen. It left the port again on Aug 2 at 8.30 p.m. bound to Gdynia, ETA Aug 8.
