Working Conditions Aboard the Marella-Discovery-2

Marella Cruises' parent company TUI UK canceled the upcoming voyage of the 'Marella Discovery 2' due to a technical issue in the catering facilities. Affected was the 7-day "Pride of Panama" itinerary departing from Jamaica (Montego Bay) on Jan 31, 2023, so maintenance works could take place. “While the ship is currently able to deliver our full food and beverage offering to customers currently onboard, maintenance is required to take place that would impact the cruise due to depart Jamaica on Tuesday, January 31.” The voyage scheduled to depart out of Jamaica on Feb 7 was due to go ahead as planned. Affected customers are being supported with their travel plans, and have been offered "future holiday vouchers as a gesture of goodwill.” At the time the issue occurred, the ship was operating the week-long round-trip Flavours of the Caribbean voyage from Montego Bay, Jamaica. Ports of call included Cozumel, Quintana Roo Mexico, Riviera Maya (Jan 26), Havana, Cuba (Jan 27/28), and Grand Cayman Island, George Town Harbour (Jan 28).

Three people have been arrested as part of an investigation into the alleged importation of drugs off the Isle of Wight, the National Crime Agency (NCA) has confirmed. One crew member onboard the 'Marella Discovery 2' – which was anchored off the Island – was involved with a police investigation. The cruise ship has been moored off Sandown Bay for the last few weeks. Responding to an enquiry regarding a TUI cruise ship, the NCA said that three men were detained by officers on April 25, 2020. The arrests were made as part of an investigation into the alleged importation of drugs. The three men will appear at Winchester Crown Court on May 27.

A man fell from a boat of the 'Marella Discovery 2' and gouged his leg open on a propeller in the Solent on May 7 at 3 p.m. He required surgery after he fell from a boat which was servicing the cruise ship. He was pulled from the water and back onto the ship. He remained conscious however went into shock following the incident. A rescue helicopter was launched over the Solent to rush the crewman to Southampton General Hospital after the Maritime and Coastguard Agency received a call from the vessel at 3:10 p.m. The Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team and HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lee on Solent were sent to the scene.
