At around 02.45 a.m. on Feb 1, 2014, the "BSS Pride" was attacked by pirates in the Rupat Strait, which is separating Rupat Island from Sumatra, odin.tc reports. The tanker was underway en route to Dumai port. The pirates approached the vessel on a boat and climbed on board using a bamboo ladder. They assaulted two people on watch in the engine room, the Ukrainian Udalyakh Andry and the Filipino Montalban, and forced them to take the pirates to storage area. The pirates stole packaged spare parts worth $20,500, and fled.
