The body of a Filipino national was recovered from the sea in the night of Sep 30, 2023, after he was seen climbing the steps on the northern side of the Detached Mole in Gibraltar. The 48-year-old man was a crew member of the 'Gladiator', who was reported missing at around 9.30 p.m. when it's believed he fell into the water. A multi-agency search followed involving the RGP, the Gibraltar Defence Police, Customs, the Port Authority and the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service. GBC understands two GFRS divers and two back up divers were involved in the initial search and rescue operation, however the body was apparently recovered within minutes, at around 10.30 p.m. Crime Scene investigators were dispatched to the area and the coroner was informed. No foul play was suspected at this time and an investigation was ongoing. The tanker had arrived in Gibraltar on Sep 13.
