On Feb 27, 2020, the 'Lindanger', enroute from Timaru to Pecket, rescued the 67 year old French single hand sailor Thierry Deroy from his Maracuja 62 aluminium yacht 'No Comment' at the outskirts of the Chattam Islands, nearly 400 miles southeast of New Zealand. After capsizing and dismasting, the boat was taking on water and was irreparable at sea. Thierry Deroy was taken towards Punta Arenas. The skipper had activated his distress beacon on Feb 26, and the tanker diverted towards the position. Thierry Deroy had left Guadeloupe on Oct 20, 2019 to participate in La Longue Route 2018. During his three years of preparation for this round the world trip he had his base at the port of Bono in the Gulf of Morbihan, where also several competitors prepared for this iconic trip.
