The "Kota Lumayan" had a near miss with a yacht in the shipping channel off Point Lonsdale in Victoria while it was being piloted through Port Phillip heads when the small yacht crossed dangerously close to its bow on Oct 31, 2010. Marine Safety Victoria confirmed it and the Water Police had been notified and were looking closely at the incident. The ketch was making very slow progress through the rip when, att the same time, the fully laden freighter was outbound, moving fast with the tidal race.
