On Nov 23, 2024, at 6.40 a.m. UTC the 'Kıran America', en route from İskenderun to Karadeniz Ereğli, lost control and drifted towards the shore off the Kanlıca - Çubuklu Coastal road during the transit of the Bosphorus amid bad weather conditions. There were conflicting reports on whether it was a rudder failure or strong winds accompanying the storm that led to the vessel losing control. A KEGM tugboat, which was moored at the Çubuklu rapid intervention pier, was urgently moved up and moved towards the ship.
