Fire broke out in cabin of private vehicle

Mar 09, 2026 20:04

**Title: Immediate Action Averts Disaster on 'Golden Bridge' Ferry Fire** On March 6, 2026, at 5 a.m., a fire erupted in the cabin of a commercial vehicle onboard the ferry 'Golden Bridge' during its transit from Barcelona to Palma de Mallorca. The incident originated within the vehicle, located on the car deck, but swift action from the crew ensured that the situation was managed without endangering passengers. Following emergency protocols, the crew rapidly contained the blaze, prompting an evacuation of the stern area. Throughout the ordeal, passengers were kept informed, and there were no requests for assistance, allowing the ferry to continue its journey towards its scheduled destination without further incident. GNV, the ferry operator, clarified that contrary to some reports, the involved vehicle was not a refrigerated truck and had undergone standard loading procedures at the port terminal. Given that the fire source was on a vehicle loaded from land, GNV, in collaboration with the ship’s owner, lodged a formal complaint with the appropriate authorities on March 7 to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident's circumstances. GNV has committed to working closely with all relevant authorities and stakeholders to fully understand the underlying factors that led to the fire. The ferry 'Golden Bridge' recommenced its voyage on March 9, setting course for Piraeus, with an estimated arrival on March 12. Fire in truck extinguished by crew - 12 injured

Mar 09, 2026 19:59

**Title: Fire on Board ‘Golden Bridge’: Crew Heroics Prevent Major Disaster, 12 Injured** On the morning of March 6, 2026, a fire erupted in a truck aboard the ferry ‘Golden Bridge’ as it was making its journey from Barcelona to Palma de Mallorca. This incident took place around 6:30 a.m., approximately 50 nautical miles from its intended destination, with 126 passengers and 46 crew members on board. Thanks to the quick action of the ship's crew, the fire was swiftly contained and extinguished. Despite the successful firefighting efforts, the ship was escorted into Palma by a coordinated response team, including the Helimer 203 helicopter and the emergency tug ‘Marta Mata’ (IMO: 9429120), along with the SAR boat 'Salvamar Libertas', all mobilized by Salvamento Marítimo. The ‘Golden Bridge’ safely docked at Palma's port by 9:30 a.m. Upon arrival, emergency protocols were activated due to the smoke accumulation in the vehicle hold. Firefighters from SEIB 112 and Palma Firefighters, in conjunction with the Civil Guard and other emergency services, were dispatched to the scene. Fortunately, further tug assistance was deemed unnecessary. Once passengers disembarked, paramedics from the SAMU 061 emergency medical service provided treatment to 12 individuals: ten sustained minor injuries, while two were classified as seriously injured and transported to a local hospital. Among those affected by smoke inhalation was a young three-year-old girl, who received immediate care. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the fire’s cause, as further safety measures are assessed on board.
