A fire broke out in the engine room of the 'Falcon Chemist' on August 19, 2023, at approximately 11:40 p.m. while the vessel was traveling from Changchu to Daesan-Seosan in the Yellow Sea, located around 43 nautical miles west of Gunsan. Immediate action was taken by the South Korean Coast Guard along with local maritime emergency agencies, leading to the safe evacuation of all 16 crew members. By August 20 at 1:15 p.m., the fire was successfully extinguished using the ship’s onboard firefighting systems. Following the incident, the now-disabled tanker is scheduled to be towed to Yeosu for further assessment and repairs.
