On January 15, the bulk carrier 'Eurostar', while sailing from Rio de Janeiro to Las Palmas, encountered a migrant vessel approximately 148 nautical miles southeast of El Hierro. The courageous crew of the 'Eurostar' stayed beside the small dinghy until the arrival of the salvage operation boat 'Guardamar Urania' (IMO: 9967770), dispatched by Salvamento Marítimo for assistance. The SAR vessel successfully escorted the dinghy to Arguineguín, where they arrived in the late afternoon. Among the 108 individuals on board were two deceased, comprising 82 men, 20 women, and four minors. Additionally, due to a medical emergency, one individual had to be airlifted by the SAR helicopter Helimer 206 and was taken to Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas for urgent care. After fulfilling its humanitarian duty, 'Eurostar' continued on its journey and reached its destination port on January 16.
