Grounding on Paraná
The 'Athina III' ran aground on Jan 16, 2021, at 5.40 a.m. on the Paraná river at kilometer 398,3. The bulk carrier was en route from the Renova Terminal in Arroyo Seco to Tarragona and loaded with 42.995 tonnes of soy bean meal. A salvage master was appointed to evaluate the situation. The tugs 'Brutus' and 'Burondi' were called to refloat the ship. The salvage started on Jan 16 at 1.20 p.m. The 'Burundi' joined at 8.35 p.m. During the night time, the navigation in the main channel was timewise suspended at the grounding site. The ship was refloated on Jan 17.
