Bulkcarrier refloated

The "JS Danube", being loaded with 46,000 tons of coal he ship, loaded with 46,000 tons of coal imported by a Kenyan cement manufacturing firm was refloated on May 2, 2015, under supervision of the Kenya Ports Authority. A team of South African, Dutch and Kenyan salvage experts got the ship off in the evening and towed it to an anchorage at Kilindini harbour. The ship was now waiting to discharge her cargo at berth number 10. The "JS Danube" had hit a coral rock in low tide as she sailed into Kilindini harbour. Low tides hamper salvage

Divers and marine engineers from South Africa and the Netherlands were assisting in the re-floating of the "JS Danube". Low tides were hampering efforts to get the ship off. At the time the vessel went aground, the tide stood at 2.3 metres. It was hoped the tides would reach a Level of 3.2 metres making it sufficient enough to allow the salvage crew to examine the vessel and tow it to port.High tides were expected on May 1. The vessel was carrying 46000 tonnes of coal. The foreship was damaged when it hit the coral reef. No oil was spilt. The ship has 24 Ukranian sailors aboard. It sailed from Egypt through Namibia's Walvis Bay Port ferrying coal imported by a Mombasa-based cement factory.

The "JS Danube" on Apr 27, 2015, at 8 p.m. ran aground while approaching Mombasa port en route from Richards Bay, where she had sailed on Apr 21 after taking on a cargo of coal and subsequent bunkering. On Apr 28 the vessel was still stuck.
