Danuta-I

The 'Danuta I' has transited the Strait of Hormuz amid sharply reduced vessel movements in the region, with many ships slowing, diverting, or waiting outside the waterway amid heightened security concerns. The LPG carrier departed from the Dubai Anchorage on Feb 27, 2026, at 3:23 p.m. UTC and was sailing toward Khor Fakkan with a speed of around 12.3 knots and a reported draught of 12 metres, indicating the vessel was laden, with an ETA as of March 6. The tanker had arrived in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz in the early hours of March 5,, but appeared to turn around before reaching it. The 'Danuta I' went dark in the morning hours, but around 01.30 a.m. UTC, its AIS showed the gas carrier sailing through the strait .The tanker was a prolific shipper of Iranian LPG, having been part of Iran’s shadow fleet* since it was de facto created when sanctions on the Islamic Republic were reimposed. If the vessel is laden as indicated by its draught, it was carrying roughly 44,000 tonnes of refrigerated, liquefied propane and butane The operator’s risk calculus may have been that given the 'Danuta I’s ties to Iran’s energy exports, it would not be targeted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. The 'Danuta I' was sanctioned by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on Feb 25.
