Alatepe

The 'Kalbajar' (IMO: 9821471) with 14 crew members and the 'Alatepe' with 17 crew members on board were in allision in the Floria area near the anchorage of Küçükmede in the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul on Dec 30, 2025. The tankers came into contact while they were anchored and sent distress signals. The 'Kalbajar’s anchor damaged the 'Alatepe’s propeller, leaving the 'Alatepe' unable to maneuver. Rescue teams and the tug 'Kurtarma 9' (IMO: 9598581) were urgently dispatched to the scene, given the close proximity to the shore. The Istanbul authorities had previously issued a storm warning due to strong winds in the Sea of Marmara. The 'Kalbajar' was anchored in pos. 40° 57' N 028° 45' E, the 'Alatepe' got stuck in pos. 40° 58' N 028° 47' E. So far, no injuries or marine pollution have been reported, while the relevant authorities continued to monitor the situation and investigate the circumstances under which the incident occurred. The 'Kalbajar' could be secured, and salvage efforts for the grounded Alatepe were to begin after the severe weather conditions have improved and divers conducted an underwater inspection. On June 4, 2024, the 'Alatepe', while sailing down the Gualdalquivir river, requested the medical evacuation of a crew member with a cut on his leg. The CCS Cádiz of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the SAR helicopter Helimer 223, which hoisted the victim and transported him to the airport, where an ambulance was waiting.
