Company dismissed reports about lack of medical equipment after passenger died

Aug 28, 2025 11:44

After a 56-year-old Greek man died of a sudden cardiac arrest aboard the “Daleela” on the morning of Aug 27, shortly before its arrival at Limassol port, the Scandro Holdings Ltd issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident, confirming that the passenger suffered a sudden cardiac episode during the scheduled voyage from Piraeus to Limassol. The ship’s doctor responded immediately and provided necessary medical care, fully applying existing protocols. Despite resuscitation efforts, it was not possible to save his life. The deceased was a permanent Cyprus resident who experienced severe chest pain and collapsed unconscious in a public area of the vessel approximately 20 nautical miles before reaching Cyprus. Scandro Holdings emphasised that all required safety procedures were implemented without delay and that the ship was fully equipped with all necessary medical equipment required by law, dismissing reports suggesting a lack of medical equipment as inaccurate. Police attended the scene when the ferry docked at Limassol port to conduct examinations. The cause of death was to be confirmed through a post-mortem examination, with the Agios Ioannis police station in Limassol leading the investigation.
