Daiwan-Elegance

The Taiwanese chief mate of the 'Daiwan Elegane' died on board the ship on Aug 22, 2021. The ship had finished loading at Zhangjiagang port around 1 a.m. He was reported missing at 2 a.m. when the second officer called him several times on walkie talkie. Thn Captain announced for a thorough search on the whole ship. His helmet, walkie talkie and notebook were found near cargo hold No.3 where the monkey ladder was set to check the mid draft. The duty crew member reported he had already checked the ship's draft with 2others. He was not wearing any safety equipments. It was assumed that he went to check draft again alone and fall over board. An SAR operation was launched, and his body was found on Aug 25 in the afternoon. It was a very calm sea, three ladders were set upto water and the pier also had fixed ladders. The police was still investigating the accident, and the vessel was held at a mooring buoy nearby.
