Wood chip carrier sank cargo barge
The "Daio Southern Cross", having sailed from Cai Lan to Mishima on Jan 6, 2019, at 7.30 p.m., was in collision with the inland cargo ship "NB-8836" on Jan 7 at 01.40 a.m. LT in the Ha Long Bay. The barge, being loaded with 1.580 tons of cement, broke in two and sank. Four of its five crew members were rescued, the 32 year old captain was later recovered dead. The wood chip carrier with a crew of 20 Filipinos moored on Hon Gai Anchorage for investigations.
