Fire in Ceyport
A fire broke out in the accomodation block of the 'Alara 2' at the Ceyport Port in the TaΕucu neighborhood of the Silifke district of Mersin on the night of Oct 16, 2025. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The fire was brought under control on Oct 17 at around 1 a.m. Two crew members who had responded to the fire were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. One of the crew members has been discharged, and the other was receiving treatment. Approximately 2.5 hours after the initial success, the fire broke out again at the same location and had to be tackled once more. Crew of detained Monarch Express faces Coast Guard hearing over pollution allegations
The U.S. Coast Guard alleges that the crew of the Monarch Empress illegally discharged oily bilge water approximately 30 times while the cargo ship was in port in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Since June 5, the Coast Guard has detained the 4,177-ton Panamanian-flagged ship which normally transports cargo from the Port of Palm Beach in Riviera Beach to Haiti and back. An evidentiary hearing is set to begin in the civil case at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 at the federal courthouse in West Palm Beach before U.S. Magistrate William Matthewman.
