Drill ship underway to eastern Mediterranean
Turkey has again deployed a drill ship to the eastern Mediterranean. The "Abdülhamid Han" was deployed from Mersin on Aug 9, 2022, and was first heaedd to the Iskenderun region. It will continue to search until it finds something, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a ceremony before the depature. In 2020, the dispatch of Turkish drillships into disputed waters between Greece and Turkey had brought the neighbours to the brink of a military conflict. Greece accused Turkey of illegally exploring the deposits. The government in Ankara took the position that the waters belonged to the Turkish continental shelf.
