The 'Cruise Roma' required thr urgent medical evacuation of a sick passenger, enroutefrom Civitavecchia to Barcelona, on Feb 15, 2026. The SAR boat 'Salvamar Mintaka', with a nurse and two crew members on board, came alongside the vessel and evacuated the patient to port, where an ambulance was already waiting for transport to the hospital. The operation was coordinated by the CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Barcelona.

Corvus Energy says that the company has completed the installation of a 5,5 MWh battery energy storage systems (ESS) for each of the two Ro-Pax cruise ferries “Cruise Barcelona” and “Cruise Roma” owned and operated by Italian Grimaldi Group. The ‘mega batteries’ will allow the Grimaldi cruise ferries to turn off the diesel engines and operate solely on battery power and with zero emissions for up to four hours during port stay.

Grimaldi Lines inaugurated service by its freshly lengthened and upgraded, environment-friendly superferry Cruise Roma in the port of Barcelona on 27 May before a group of distinguished guests, hosted by Grimaldi Group's corporate commercial director - short sea shipping, Guido Grimaldi. In service since 2007, operating on the Civitavecchia-Porto Torres (Sardinia)-Barcelona route, "Cruise Roma" was stretched by the insertion of a 29 metre midsection at Fincantieri's Palermo, Sicily, shipyard, extending the vessel to a length of 254 m and 63,000gt. The "Cruise Roma" suffered a damage at the portside propeller in the morning of Dec 8, 2018. The ferry, which had left Civitavecchia at 11 p.m. on Dec 7, had arrived at 7.20 a.m. on Dec 8 in Porto Torres. At 8.40 am, ten minutes after leaving the port bound for Barcelona, the ship encountereda problem with a propeller blade. The ship stopped one mile off the port for repairs by the crew which managed to fix the problem at 5 p.m. After having been cleared to sail, the ship, however, headed for Civitavecchia instead of Barcelona, docking there on Dec 9 around 1 a.m. Stormy weather and the need of further thorough inspections had caused this decision. The 390 passengers were transferred onto another Grimaldi ship after an odyssey of 26 hours to take them to Barcelona in the morning of Dec 10. The "Cruise Roma" left Civitavecchia on Dec 10 at 10.30 p.m. and returned to the Barcelona route.
