Trawler towed to Reykjakvik

Feb 08, 2018 12:37

The "Akurey" was disabled by a fouled propeller in the evening of Feb 6, 2018, west of Reykjavik off Faxaflói. The Coast Guard's command center in Iceland was called by the captain who recovered the trawl. The "Ottó N. Þorláksson - RE-203" arrived at the ship short time later and took it in tow. But the weather deteriorated considerably and the outlook was still worse so the "Thor" was called in to assist the "Akurey". At the same time, the Greenlandic fishing vessel "Tasermiut", which was also nearby, was contacted and requested to monitor the situation. The "Ottó N. Þorláksson" was meanwhile pullling the "Akurey" with seven knots northwest of Garðskaga. The "Thor" sailed from Reykjavik on Feb 7 at 10 a.m. in order to escort the convoy to Reykjavík and reached it around noon. The "Akurey" was safely berthed in port on Feb 7 at 9.30 p.m.
